The latest Trust Watch data from DemosAU for June 2026 suggests that the ABC is more likely to be trusted for information than all other sources, but only just. 60% of respondents usually or sometimes trust the ABC (the highest) and 23% of respondents rarely or never trust the ABC (the lowest).

But newspapers and news websites (59% & 26%) and Commercial TV and Radio (58% & 27%) are not far behind, and the difference is within the margin of error of the survey (3.6%). Influencers and Social Media are way behind – 26% usually or sometimes trusted and 58% rarely or never trusted.
The level of trust in the ABC is reasonably consistent across gender and age, with a tendency for trust to be greater with level of education and higher income. Trust levels tend to decrease as you move from inner metro to regional/rural, but 55% of regional/rural respondents still usually or sometimes trust the ABC for information.
The results by voting intention may be a surprise to Pauline Hanson. The level of “usually and sometimes trust” varies by political party, from ALP 76% to Greens 66% to LNP 58%. Lowest is 45% of those intending to vote One Nation trusting information from the ABC. But 45% suggests that there are many One Nation supporters that also trust the ABC.
The ABC is likely to become an election issue, with Liberal and One Nation policies to break up the ABC and One Nation already banning the ABC from its events. The ABC will need all the friends it can get in the build up to the election campaign.
