With the WA State election coming up on 8 March, WA Friends have sent out questionnaires to candidates in fifteen electorates to ascertain their support for the ABC, and their willingness to advocate to federal colleagues.
The electorates were selected based on three criteria:
- Â Â Â the numbers of ABC Friends supporters in each electorate
- Â Â Â partly on general interest, including those seats that could be read as marginals
- Â Â Â and to represent different demographic areas of Perth and the regions.
In addition to seeking responses to specific questions, the president, Cathy Bardon, also invited comments on the ABC generally or specifically in WA.
So far, she has received positive responses from one Labor MLA, two nationals candidates and one independent. The deadline for responses is 15 February.
On the Federal election side, Cathy initiated a discussion with Kate Chaney, the independent MP for Curtin, about creating a video. This is now being handled by ABC Alumni.
