WA News: Emergency radio signs, Perth FM transition, & 30 years of ABC Friends WA

WA members seek help locating ABC emergency radio signs, Perth switches to FM on 23 February, and ABC Friends WA prepares to celebrate its 30th anniversary.

When we met with WA State Manager Howard Gretton in December he asked about the road signs we all remember in regional areas advertising the local radio stations and in particular where to go for emergency broadcasts. We have been unable to ascertain who produced/es them and who places them on the roadside. We need information! Help us locate ABC emergency radio signs in WA

On Monday 23 February, ABC Radio services in Perth are moving from AM to FM. ABC Radio Perth will move from 720 AM to 102.5 FM. Radio National (810 AM) will move to 103.3 FM. And News Radio (585 AM) will begin its simulcast on 104.4 FM. The regular Local Radio presenters will broadcast from the ABC truck in Forrest Place in the centre of Perth from 5 am – Mark Gibson (Breakfast), Nadia Mitsopoulos (Mornings), Jo Trilling (Afternoons) and Oly Peterson (Drive). And ABC Managing Director Hugh Marks will be visiting ABC Perth.

Our WA Committee are planning an event in July to celebrate 30 years since Friends of the ABC WA held its first AGM. We have a copy of a report from President Mark Brook in April 1996, but if any readers can shed more light on the early days of our association in WA, please contact me at [email protected].
